Welcome to the Lions Club of Glenside

Glenside Lions Club is part of Lions Australia and Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organisation in the World.

The Club was formed in 1980. As well as serving the community in various ways it has donated almost $3 million to local, national and overseas charitable causes.

Membership is open to males and females over the age of 18 years.

Each month we hold a business meeting at Burnside Community Centre and a dinner meeting at the Marryatville Hotel; but our home base is the Bookmart.

Situated on the western edge of Tusmore Park, the Bookmart is SA’s second-largest second-hand bookshop with annual sales exceeding $250,000.

At Glenside Lions our motto is WE SERVE. We welcome new members.

Why Not Be a Bookmart Volunteer?

Volunteering is a priceless contribution and assists with raising much-needed funds through the sale of pre-loved books

Selected books and new acquisitions are advertised on the Bookmart’s Facebook page.
The Art Show kicks off with a Gala Opening and runs for five days. Over 400 works are exhibited and all are for sale.
Many young children have undiagnosed vision issues that can affect their ability to learn. Screening can result in a referral to an optometrist
Hearing Australia’s mobile unit comes to the Bookmart several times a year to give free tests.
The Bookmart is a hub for our twice-yearly collections for Foodbank.
There was wide recognition of Lions’ role, led by our Club, to provide free feed to drought-stricken SA farmers.
We celebrate Australia Day and ANZAC Day with barbecues.
As well as a social occasion, a BBQ is a chance to get to know members of beneficiary organisations. When a whole month’s takings at the Bookmart were donated to a Ukrainian cause, the symbolic big cheque was presented at the next BBQ.
