In conjunction with World Sight Day this October Glenside Lions Club is making a donation of two Biological Safety Cabinets to the Eye Bank of South Australia for storage of corneal tissue at a cost of $30,000. We are also making a donation of a DMEK microscope for corneal work at a cost of $15,000. This will make our total commitment of $45,000 for these equipment to the Eye Bank and this will be Glenside Lions Club’s major project for this Club year. Glenside Lions have been regular donors to the Eye Bank. In 2018 our Club donated a ML7 Microkeratome at a cost of $25,000 to the Eye Bank. And South Australian Lions have donated more than $2 million to the Eye Bank. Updates will be posted as this project progresses.The Department of Ophthalmology at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) is the centre of excellence for academic ophthalmology in South Australia.The Department also hosts the Eye Bank of South Australia (donor tissue for corneal transplantation) and the Australian Corneal Graft Register. #weserve
