Books for Lesotho is an organisation managed by David and Liz Linn who ship books to Lesotho for the Schools Literacy Program. David and Liz started by visiting Lesotho and other regions in Africa in 2004 and again in 2006. Since then they have made 13 visits to Lesotho. There they contacted an ecumenical social justice organisation, the Transformation Resource Centre, TRC, an NGO in Lesotho. TRC has a literacy project called the Lesotho Schools Library Books Project that distributes books to primary and high schools in Lesotho. They supply books for learning as well as books for just reading enjoyment. They have a base at Pasadena High School where books are sorted, packed and dispatched. Shipping costs are high at about 70 cents per book shipped from Adelaide to Lesotho. David and Liz also manage their fund raising for this purpose. By 2018 they have shipped 130,000 books and by this time 2019 they have shipped a total of 144,845 books. David and Liz are very passionate about their project. You can learn more at their website www.booksforlesotho.org and their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/booksforlesotho/
At the Glenside Lions Bookmart, Ann and Dennis Mattschoss and Jacquie Holdich select the books and pack them in boxes for David and Liz to collect. And this is how Glenside Lions help to support literacy.
