Lion Paul Holland hosted a troop of Joey Scouts (and some of their parents) from Pembroke School on a tour of the Bookmart on May 15th. The tour was the result of a suggestion from Paul’s son in law, David Dall. David’s daughter is a Joey Scout.
It was particularly poignant that the Bookmart used to be the Tusmore Scout Hall. The Joey Scouts donated at least 5 children’s books to Glenside Lions as part of their progress to secure their “Caring & Sharing” badge.
They then completed a simple exercise on how the sale of books helped fund mobile libraries & other worthwhile community projects. The ” Joey’s” then visited the Children’s Section of the Bookmart and purchased some books. It must have been contagious because quite a few parents followed suit. Overall a very successful evening for both the Joeys and our Club’s focus on youth activities. Well done Paul!
